The Eastern Baptist Association (EBA) has appointed Rev David Mayne as its new Regional Minister Team Leader, overseeing 170 Baptist churches across Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, and Cambridgeshire. David Mayne brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as Lead Pastor at Shoeburyness & Thorpe Bay Baptist Church in Essex and in various leadership roles within the Baptist community. He has also been actively involved in broader Baptist initiatives, such as serving as Moderator of Baptist Union Council and participating in European Baptist Federation teams. With a focus on working alongside other churches, David is committed to navigating the EBA through a period of significant change, emphasizing creativity and relationship-building.
During his ministry, David has supported national Baptist life through various endeavors, including his involvement with the Joint Public Issues Team (JPIT), which aims to address public policy issues and promote peace and justice. The EBA highlighted the need for someone to guide the association through a time of change with creativity and a heart for building relationships. Former EBA Chair of Trustees, Rev Fiona Heddle, expressed excitement about David joining the team, citing his collaborative leadership style and strategic thinking. David views the impact of churches working together on issues like the environment and poverty as essential for creating a more welcoming and inclusive society, emphasizing the importance of building connections with communities and addressing social and political challenges.
David Mayne sees Baptist churches as hubs for connection and change, bringing the Kingdom of God into the daily experiences of communities. He stresses the importance of grassroots partnerships, working with other denominations to create spaces of sanctuary and joy for all individuals. While recognizing the challenges of this work, David is eager to engage with EBA ministers and churches, supporting them in their mission and ministry. He is excited to explore and learn from various groups and projects across Norfolk and Waveney, highlighting the importance of seeking signs of the Spirit and trusting in a future that surpasses the past. With a clear sense of calling to this new role, David looks forward to leading the EBA into a future filled with new opportunities and growth.
