Dean of Norwich named Royal Norfolk Show president
The Royal Norfolk Show has appointed the Dean of Norwich, the Very Rev Jane Hedges as its president for this year.
She said she hopes to unite farming and church communities to improve understanding of the food industry, and to focus on people’s physical, mental and spiritual health.
Jane, who oversees the life of the Anglican cathedral in Norwich, has been appointed by the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association (RNAA).
She told the Norwich Evening News it was “an enormous privilege and an honour” to be asked to preside over the county’s summer spectacular at the Norfolk Showground, and she will use the opportunity to recreate the traditional links between the farming seasons and church services, such as Plough Sunday in January, Lammas in July and the Harvest Festival in October.
The cathedral will itself be exhibiting at the Show once again this year within the Diocese of Norwich’s large marquee, alongside a number of other Christian charities in partnership with Celebrate Norfolk.
