Christian writer’s new blog on Norwich’s fine people

Liz Humphries, a Christian, writer and journalist, has a new blog championing people who are doing good things for others in the fine city of Norwich.

The new blog, afinepeople.co.uk, is a collection of human interest stories told by journalist and communications specialist Liz Humphries. Each week Liz (pictured) interviews someone, based in and around the city of Norwich, whose passion, work or hobby benefits others.

Having previously worked for ITV Anglia news, Essex Police and the City of Norwich School, Liz started the blog in January as a way to keep writing and reporting while looking after her one-year old son.

Liz said: “I have always been interested in other people’s stories or lives, and in my early career I was a reporter, so I enjoy meeting new people and finding out more about them. I simply want to raise awareness of the wonderful things people are doing in and around Norwich for others.”

A member of Norwich Central Baptist Church, Liz said: “The news agenda can often be tragic and difficult to watch or read. My children don’t understand why I think news is so important and often I find it hard to talk about daily stories with them. Social media can also be full of alarming stories or unedited footage taken out of context. I want to use this blog to share positive news and raise awareness. There are so many good things that happen which don’t make the news edit.”

The blog has featured a pregnancy yoga teacher who helps women to feel stronger and healthier after a traumatic birth or pregnancy experience,  a lymphoedema therapist, the street pastors who look after the clubbers of Norwich, a Guide Dog owner, a cancer survivor who has set up a charity distributing pamper boxes and three ladies who have shared their stories of hope after miscarriage.

Liz would be keen to receive ideas about people to feature in her blog. She said: “It’s not all about charities and you don’t have to be a Christian. It’s about a particular person each week who goes above and beyond, either through their work, hobby or voluntary role which benefits others. It’s a positive story with a positive outcome. I will need to interview them either face to face or via email or phone and use a picture.”

You can get in touch with Liz to send ideas via the blog, on social media @afinepeople or email [email protected].
