Carrie becomes licensed lay worker in Norwich

Norwich outreach worker Carrie Sant will be licensed as a lay worker at St Luke’s Church by Bishop Graham at a special service on May 1 at 10:30am.

Carrie is a qualified nurse, ordained minister and trained counsellor with a passion for helping people in need. She has worked for many years in Norwich amongst homeless people, those struggling in poverty, with mental health problems and those with addictions. Her group City Saints in Action offers practical support and a wide network of contacts to offer hope and assistance to people.

Carrie said, “Last year I felt that God was leading me to speak to the Bishop about the burden I have on my heart to connect church to need in practical, safe and effective ways.”

Carrie has already undertaken theological training and has proven pastoral practice and experience of leading public worship. Carrie will be licensed as a lay worker with the particular task of linking the church to those in need in the city. Her license means she can continue and build upon the work she already does with the authority of a minister of the church. Bishop Graham expressed his confidence in Carrie for the role. He said, “[Carrie’s license] will recognise the connection between leadership in public worship and preaching and her pastoral care and mission activity with such a range of people in need in the wider Diocese.”

Anyone who knows Carrie is invited to attend the service and is there will be a bring and share lunch at the church after the service. Carrie said, “I would really appreciate friends sharing in this important occasion.”
