YMCA residents open new Norwich charity shop

Young people living at YMCA Norwich Central were honoured to be part of unveiling to the public a new charity shop in the city centre.

The new shop has opened in the former ShoeZone unit on St Stephens Street, becoming the third YMCA charity shop in Norwich city centre.

At the opening, people queued early to pick up the best bargains at 10am. The shop itself was opened by a young resident who lives nearby at their Norwich Central Accommodation, with staff from YMCA Norfolk cheering them on.

Proceeds from this shop will go back into funding their work locally to helping young people; providing accommodation, opportunities, and support across Norfolk. YMCA Norfolk believe that all young people deserve to have a safe place to live and a supportive environment in which to develop.

YMCA Norfolk CEO, John Lee, said: “I was thrilled to see our young people involved in the opening of our most recent charity shop. It was great to see the Norwich community coming together to celebrate with us, and we look forward to seeing profits go back into transforming young lives across the county.”

Since opening the shop, young people from YMCA’s Central accommodation, near Norwich Bus Station, have begun getting involved in volunteering to build their skills, and support their future. This shop will continue to open opportunities for people to get involved.
