The Bishop spoke of the heroes who emerged from the wreckage, including individuals who provided aid and comfort to the injured and grieving.
Among those hailed as heroes was Dr. Peter Eade, who selflessly tended to the wounded and later founded the city’s branch of St John Ambulance to teach first aid skills. The disaster led to advancements in railway safety, with the development of the Tyer Tablet System by inventor Edward Tyer to prevent similar accidents in the future. The tragedy also had a lasting impact on the community, with the scars of that day affecting generations to come.
