Revelation Centre in Norwich closes down
Revelation Christian Resource Centre in Norwich has closed its doors for good, with the last day of trading on September 28. A ‘farewell party’ was held on the final day, with around 60 people attending to enjoy refreshments and make final purchases. The centre, previously known as the ‘Norwich Christian Resource Centre’, had been located at St Michael at Plea church since 2008. The decision to close was made by the trustees as the lease was due to expire and the centre could no longer afford the rent and running costs. Margaret Smith, Chair of Trustees, expressed that the decision was made with heavy hearts and in consideration of the impact it would have on regular visitors. Factors such as changing shopping habits, online shopping, and rising costs of living played a role in the closure.
Despite the closure, the trustees reflect on the many ways in which God has blessed them over the years. They acknowledge the wonderful conversations held in the café, the dedication of the staff and volunteers, and the support from the community. While alternative avenues were explored, no viable options were found, and the future remains uncertain, especially for the younger generation. It is noted that trends suggest a decline in card sales, book sales, and church supplies due to factors such as high postage costs, e-books, and decreasing church attendance in various denominations. Despite these challenges, there is a sense of gratitude for the support received from people of all faiths and backgrounds.
Margaret Smith expresses her gratitude for the support and contributions from the community, both in terms of financial donations, prayers, and physical presence at the centre. While saddened by the closing of the centre, she remains hopeful that new ways will emerge to spread the message of love and hope to the people of Norwich and beyond. As the light for the gospel represented by the centre dims, there is a belief that God will provide new avenues to continue spreading the message of faith. The closure of Revelation Christian Resource Centre marks the end of an era, but also hints at the possibilities for new beginnings and innovative approaches to sharing the gospel message in the community.
In conclusion, the closure of Revelation Christian Resource Centre in Norwich signifies the end of a chapter in its history. The decision to shut down was made due to financial constraints and changing shopping trends that impacted the centre’s ability to sustain its operations. Despite the challenges faced, there is a sense of gratitude for the support received from the community and the blessings experienced over the years. As the centre closes its doors, there is a recognition of the need for new ways to continue spreading the message of faith and hope to the people of Norwich and beyond. The closure marks a turning point, but also opens up opportunities for new beginnings and creative approaches to ministry in the local community.
