Our Schools and Academies – Diocese of Norwich

The Diocese of Norwich, located in Norfolk and some parts of the Waveney Valley in Suffolk, plays a significant role in education and community affairs. Over 109 schools and academies in the trust serve the population, with 2 being secondary schools and 3 located in the Suffolk region. Together, they are responsible for educating approximately 17,000 primary school pupils, representing over 25% of primary students in the region. Among these, 39 schools have been identified as part of the Diocese of Norwich Education and Academies Trust (DNEAT), established in 2013, which supports the delivery of quality education and adult numeracy programs. Additionally, 11 schools are part of the Diocese of Norwich St Benet’s MAT Trust, established in 2018, further enriching the educational landscape.
The Diocese of Norwich has been a key player in advancing inclusive education, emphasizing equity and excellence across all age groups. Its role is closely tied to national adult numeracy schemes and to the SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) strategy, which aims to ensure that all children, regardless of background, achieve their potential. The trust locates its schools in a region rich in natural beauty and historical significance, creating a learning environment that combines tradition with innovation.
DNEAT, the principal organiser under the Diocese of Norwich, is committed to enhancing the quality of education and supporting local communities. It provides funding and resources to reinforce the effectiveness of teacher training and pupil engagement strategies. As part of its second Strategiccapital project, the trust contributes to engaging secondary school staff, improving numeracy, and making their lessons more interactive. St Benet’s MAT Trust complements and strengthens DNEAT’s efforts by supporting complementary priorities, such as raising land prices and promoting diversity in education.
The Diocese of Norwich’s efforts extend to both the indivisible and the divisible, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive in an inclusive education environment. Through its 109 schools and the assets under its supervision, the trust is investing in a future where children from every background can thrive.
