NUTCRACKER IN HAVANA Will Embark on UK Tour

The world of ballet is about to get a lot more exciting, as Norwich Theatre and Valid Productions announce the return of their critically acclaimed production, “Carlos Acosta’s Nutcracker in Havana”. This vibrant and colourful Cuban take on the classic tale will embark on its second UK tour, starting from October 31, 2025, at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre and running until February 11, 2026, at Norwich Theatre Royal. The ballet, choreographed and directed by the renowned Carlos Acosta CBE, promises to bring a fresh and unique perspective to the traditional story, blending classical and contemporary dance genres with Cuban folk traditions.
The production originally opened in November 2024 to tremendous reviews and sold-out performances across the country, with audiences and critics alike praising its innovative and bold approach. The show features over 20 dancers from Acosta’s Cuban company, Acosta Danza, and is set to an exuberant Cuban version of Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score, arranged by Cuban composer Pepe Gavilondo. With spectacular video projection and set design by Nina Dunn, the production brings the vibrant city of Havana to life, colliding with the Land of Sweets in a visually stunning spectacular treat for all. As Carlos Acosta himself said, “Creating and touring this first full-length production for Acosta Danza makes me incredibly proud. Watching them fuse together their classical and contemporary dance genres and Cuban Folk, with their sheer joy of dance, to the delight of audiences up and down the country has been a real dream come true for me.”
The success of the first tour was a testament to the power of innovation and creativity in the world of ballet. With 39% of attendees being first-time dance-goers, the production clearly struck a chord with new and diverse audiences. Stephen Crocker, Chief Executive and Creative Director of Norwich Theatre, noted, “Daring to be different saw the inaugural tour a huge success, playing to sell-out audiences around the country… Nutcracker in Havana underscores the power of being brave and embracing innovation and we are delighted that audiences in many more parts of the UK-wide can enjoy this wonderful production in their local theatre this year.” The production’s ability to connect with new audiences and bring a fresh perspective to a well-known story is a significant achievement, and one that is sure to be repeated on its second tour.
The tour will visit numerous theatres across the UK, including the Hackney Empire in London, Blackpool Grand Theatre, and Edinburgh Festival Theatre, before returning to its original home, Norwich Theatre Royal.
