Norwich mentoring charity nominated for award
Community Chaplaincy Norfolk has been nominated for their impactful work in prison outreach by the Christian Funders’ Forum, leading to a Showcase event at the House of Lords in London in October. The charity trains volunteers to mentor prison leavers as they transition back into the community. Working with 35 clients, they provide support to individuals of all faiths with the belief that everyone deserves compassion, forgiveness, and hope. New mentors are trained three times a year to provide the necessary support.
Volunteer mentors with the charity receive training in emotional support and practical guidance on matters like housing, employment, managing bills, and simply being a friendly face to those in need. If individuals possess traits such as compassion, organization, good people skills, and are able to dedicate a few hours a week, they are encouraged to reach out to learn more about becoming a mentor. Full and ongoing training is provided to ensure mentors are well-equipped to support their clients effectively. The next mentor training course is set to run for 8 weeks on Wednesdays from September to November.
For those who are unable to commit as mentors but still want to contribute to the work of Community Chaplaincy Norfolk, donations can be made through their website. This financial support helps sustain the organization in providing valuable resources and assistance to prison leavers as they reintegrate into society. General inquiries or sign-ups for the mentor training course can be directed to Claire at the provided email address. The charity’s inclusive approach welcomes mentors and clients from all backgrounds, emphasizing the importance of unity and support within the community.
