Norwich City: Jon Rowe named in England U21 squad

Rowe, who has netted six goals in 10 matches for Norwich, has been named in the Young Lions squad for the first time as they face Serbia and Ukraine in the upcoming international break.

The City winger only made his first senior start on the opening day of the season against Hull but has surpassed all expectations with his performances, making him a regular of David Wagner’s side.

Those impressive displays have won him further international recognition weeks after he was named in the England U20 squad for the first time. It’s understood he impressed Joe Edwards and staff during a camp at St George’s Park.

Since, Rowe has been monitored closely by Carsley and his staff, leading to a promotion to the U21s.

Rowe has lit up the Championship and is in line to make his Young Lions debut when they face Serbia at the City Ground next Thursday in a Euro U21 qualifier.

“Jaden [Philogene] and Jonathan [Rowe] are both doing really well with their clubs at the minute – they’re players who are in form which is always a good position for us to be in,” Carsley said of Rowe’s inclusion.

The City man is in fine company – also included in the squad are Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott, Newcastle’s Tino Livramento and Cole Palmer, who moved to Chelsea in a big-money move from Manchester City this summer.

Rowe’s call-up is the latest recognition of a sparkling start to the new campaign and is the latest step of his rapid development.
