Mumba was part of a Pilgrims’ side who dismantled the Canaries 6-2 at Home Park after sealing a permanent move to Argyle in the summer.
The 21-year-old was deployed in a left wing back role against his old club, but did haul down Onel Hernandez to concede a late penalty.
“I thought he did really well. Obviously (Jack) Stacey who plays at right back for Norwich is a real powerful lad who likes to get forward and causes real problems,” said Schumacher. “So does (Dimi) Giannoulis at left back.
“We wanted wing backs up against them to limit the space they had. Bali defended brilliantly and showed the quality we know he has got. It could have been easy for Bali to force things and try to get over complicated, but I don’t think he did.
“Obviously he could have got himself in a better position and he didn’t need to make a clumsy challenge like he did on Hernandez but that’s what Bali has to get better at. He does so many good things and that part of the game he could improve, but he is only young and I am sure he will improve over the years.”
Mumba returned to the Plymouth line up after being rested for a midweek mauling at Bristol City, along with Canaries’ slayer Morgan Whittaker and prolific frontman Ryan Hardie.
“Every time we’ve had a poor performance since I’ve been at this club. we’ve always had a good reaction,” said Schumacher. “Because the players that we bring to the club are good people. Everyone has an off day every now and again.
“The players responded brilliantly and showed what they were all about. I think their effort and their commitment to stick to the plan and put bodies on the line for the shirt was there for all to see. When you do that, you get your rewards.
“The thing that pleases me the most is that we spoke on Thursday, and then we quickly went on to what we were going to try and do against Norwich.
“We changed shape; we went to a back three system that we were comfortable with last season, because the way that Norwich play, that was going to give us the best chance to intercept the ball in the middle of the pitch.
“We spoke about the game plan, we explained it, and then we tried to practice it in training. It worked to a tee, so that’s the most pleasing part, as well as the response, as well as the reaction.”
