Join Norwich church’s 90th celebration weekend

As the leaves begin to change colors and autumn sets in, the community of Catton Grove is buzzing with excitement. Oak Grove Community Church, a beloved institution in the area since 1935, is celebrating a major milestone – its 90th anniversary. For nine decades, the church has been a beacon of hope, faith, and community, and it’s only fitting that this occasion be marked with a grand celebration. From October 2 to 5, the church is inviting everyone to join in the festivities, which promise to be an unforgettable experience. Whether you’re a longtime member of the community or just visiting, you’re welcome to come and be a part of this special moment in the church’s history.

The celebrations kick off on Thursday, October 2, with a Thanksgiving and Reflective Service at 7 pm at the Chapel, located at 70 Catton Grove Road. This is a chance for the community to come together, reflect on the church’s rich history, and give thanks for the countless blessings it has received over the years. As the congregation gathers, they’ll have the opportunity to share stories, memories, and experiences that have shaped the church into what it is today. It’s a time to look back, appreciate the journey, and honor the people who have contributed to the church’s growth and success. The service promises to be a heartfelt and emotional experience, and everyone is invited to attend.

On Friday, October 3, the popular Coffee Stop group will be hosting a special 1930s-themed event, complete with homemade cakes, singing, and plenty of nostalgic charm. This event will take place from 10 am to midday at the Chapel, and it’s the perfect opportunity to step back in time and experience the sights and sounds of a bygone era. The Coffee Stop group has been a staple of the church community for many years, providing a warm and welcoming space for people to connect, share, and build relationships. This special event is a chance to celebrate the group’s dedication and commitment to the community, and to have a fun and entertaining time.

Saturday, October 4, is the day of the Community Fete, which will be held at the Hub, Catton Grove Primary School, from 12 pm to 3 pm. This promises to be an action-packed afternoon, with fete games, delicious cakes, a BBQ, ice-cream, face-painting, and much more. The Lord Mayor, Sheriff, and Sheriff’s Lady will be attending to officially open the event, which is a testament to the church’s importance and influence in the community. The fete is a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to come together, have fun, and enjoy each other’s company. Whether you’re a family with young children or a retiree looking to meet new people, there’s something for everyone at this exciting event.

As the weekend draws to a close, the church will gather for a Sunday Celebration at the Hub, starting at 10:30 am. This will be a time to come together, give thanks for God’s faithfulness over the years, and look ahead with hope and excitement for the future. Aled Griffith, the leader of the Synergy family of churches, will be speaking, and there will be refreshments and a light lunch afterwards. This is a chance to reflect on the church’s journey, celebrate its accomplishments, and anticipate the good works that God will do in the years to come. Darren Woodward, the Senior Leader of Oak Grove Community Church, has expressed his enthusiasm for the celebrations, saying, “We have planned a variety of events to enable as many people as possible to join us in reflecting on and being thankful for the history of the church, celebrating how God is moving in the life of the church now, and anticipating the good works He will do in the future.”

As the 90th-anniversary celebrations come to a close, the church will have created memories that will last a lifetime. Whether you’re able to attend one, two, or all of the events, you’re sure to feel a sense of belonging and connection to the community.
