First Norwich prison mission needs local hosts

The power of faith and community is about to make a profound impact on the lives of young prisoners in the UK. For the first time, the Kairos Torch Prisoner Christian Rehabilitation Programme will be held in HMP Norwich, bringing hope and redemption to 18-25 year olds behind bars. This pioneering mission is set to take place in October, and organizers are now reaching out to local Christian families to provide a warm and welcoming home for out-of-town team members. The program’s success relies on the kindness and generosity of the community, and that’s where you come in. By opening your home and heart to these dedicated individuals, you’ll be playing a vital role in transforming the lives of young prisoners and helping to break the cycle of crime.

The Kairos Torch program has a proven track record of success in the USA, and its introduction to the UK is a significant milestone. Richard Stephens, the UK Kairos coordinator, is thrilled to report that 95% of the team members have been appointed, and generous sponsors have come forward to support the mission. However, there’s still one crucial piece of the puzzle missing – local accommodation for the out-of-town team members. That’s where local Christian families can make a real difference. By providing a spare room and a warm welcome, you’ll be enabling the team to focus on their vital work, training a core team of Norwich residents to take over the mission management. This is a unique opportunity to be part of something groundbreaking, to make a real difference in the lives of others, and to see the power of faith in action.

The team members who will be arriving in Norwich are a diverse group of dedicated individuals from varied backgrounds. They share a common passion for Jesus and a deep commitment to helping those in need. These are people who have been approved by their churches as worthy ambassadors for Christ, and who have undergone thorough background checks. They’re not only safe but also inspiring guests who have incredible stories to share about the impact of their work in prisons. As a host family, you’ll have the opportunity to hear firsthand about the transformative power of the Kairos program and the difference it’s making in the lives of prisoners. You’ll also be providing a much-needed sanctuary for these team members, allowing them to rest and recharge as they embark on their mission. By opening your home, you’ll be demonstrating the very principles of hospitality and kindness that are at the heart of the Christian faith.

The logistics of hosting are straightforward. You’ll need to provide a bed for the team members for three nights, from Monday, October 27 to Wednesday, October 29. You won’t need to provide meals, and you can be assured that the team members will be respectful of your home and your family. This is a small ask for a huge reward – the knowledge that you’re making a real difference in the lives of others. Imagine being part of a community that’s coming together to support a common goal, to bring hope and redemption to those who need it most. By hosting a team member, you’ll be part of a larger movement, one that’s driven by faith, compassion, and a deep commitment to making a positive impact.

If you’re feeling called to be part of this extraordinary mission, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Richard Stephens, the Chairman of the Norwich Torch Advisory Council, would be delighted to hear from you. You can reach him on his mobile/WhatsApp at 07775 725385 or via email at [email protected]. This is a unique opportunity to be part of something special, to make a real difference in the lives of others, and to see the power of faith in action. By opening your home and your heart, you’ll be helping to bring hope and redemption to young prisoners, and setting them on a path towards a brighter future.

As you consider hosting a team member, remember that you’ll be part of a larger story, one that’s being written by people of faith who are passionate about making a difference. The Kairos Torch program is more than just a rehabilitation initiative – it’s a testament to the transformative power of faith and community. By being part of this mission, you’ll be helping to write a new chapter in the lives of young prisoners, one that’s filled with hope, redemption, and the promise of a brighter future. So why not get involved, open your home, and be part of something extraordinary? Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of others and bring light into the darkest of places.
