Soft play and latte refurbishment of King’s Lynn church

On Sunday King’s Lynn Baptist Church moves to a temporary home as the refurbishment of their building into a community hub, complete with a barista style café and soft play area, begins. In the overhaul the church has one hundred padded chairs to give away.
This Sunday King’s Lynn Baptist Church (KLBC) will hold their Harvest Family Celebration in the 7th King’s Lynn Scout Hut in South Lynn. The church has temporarily moved out of their building, on a strategic corner straddling old South Lynn on Wisbech Road and the new Millennium Village development, as they undertake a major refurbishment.
The church plans to take full advantage of its central location by redeveloping the building into a community hub, complete with a barista style café and a soft play area. The outside of the building will be transformed to allow in more light and present a more welcoming and open exterior; a new reception area and community café area will be built and the kitchen facilities will be expanded.
Kevan Crane, the Minister of KLBC, has always been passionate about integrating the church into the community. Now with the sale of two houses previously used by the Barnabas Housing Project and then YMCA Norfolk, the church has the resources to redevelop the church building for the benefit of the South Lynn community.
Kevan said: “It is great to see the building work start and we are looking forward to having a building that will help us to fulfil our vision to provide a safe and pleasant `meeting place` for all age groups, in an area bereft of cafés, pubs and other community facilities.
“The café will be open three days a week providing barista style coffee, cakes and lunches. A weekly community lunch for senior citizens will be launched. A soft play area will provide entertainment for toddlers, whilst parents have a cuppa and chat. We will also be able to re-launch our youth café and café church and other activities. `
As part of the refurbishment the church has one hundred blue padded chairs to rehouse. They are in good condition and stack easily. If you are interested please contact Pastor Kevan at [email protected]. A donation towards building costs would be appreciated.
The temporary venue for KLBC is the 7th Kings Lynn Scouts Group, Portland Place, off Wisbech Road, PE30 5NA. Sunday Services start at 10am.
