Norfolk social supermarket hosts Christmas event

The Purfleet Pantry in King’s Lynn recently hosted a Christmas fun day for local families as part of a new initiative to ensure children in the town have access to dental hygiene products. The event, which took place on November 25, featured stalls selling books, toys, and clothing, and also included a visit from Santa Claus who handed out free advent calendars to children. The day was supported by The Men’s Shed King’s Lynn with a festive craft stall.

The Purfleet Trust, which operates the pantry, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to provide community-focused events in South Lynn and build rapport with the local families. Pantry Manager Karen Mason stated that the Christmas event was a success and they are looking forward to bringing more events to the Pantry in the new year. The pantry has also launched a new initiative with support from Councillor Alexandra Kemp to provide free toothbrushes and toothpaste for children aged 0-7 in King’s Lynn.

Councillor Kemp, a longtime advocate for dental health, highlighted the high prevalence of tooth decay in young people in West Norfolk and emphasized the need for action. The Pantry, which offers affordable food, essentials, and furniture in South Lynn, has been a crucial resource for local parent Emma Marriott, who experienced a house fire earlier in the year. The free dental products provided by the Pantry have been especially helpful for her children. Pantry Manager Karen Mason expressed delight at working with Councillor Kemp on the campaign to raise awareness of the issue and thanked Beauty Bank and Co-Op Pharmacy Hunstanton for their donation of children’s dental products.

Overall, the Christmas fun day at the Purfleet Pantry provided a festive and enjoyable experience for local families, while also showcasing the Pantry’s commitment to supporting the community. The initiative to provide free toothbrushes and toothpaste for children demonstrates the Pantry’s dedication to addressing important health needs in the town. The support from local organizations and Councillor Kemp further enhances the impact of the initiative, and the Pantry looks forward to continuing its efforts to benefit the community in the new year.
