This weekend King’s Lynn Baptist Church celebrated the completion of a six-month renovation project, to create a lighter, more welcoming building and home to a new community café, with an open day, a service of dedication and the adoption of a new name.
King’s Lynn Baptist Church moved back into its building this weekend following a major refurbishment project. The six month renovation project, which followed years of planning, has succeeded in transforming the previously dark building into a light-filled, accessible and welcoming hub.
The church which occupies a strategic corner within its South Lynn community, straddling old South Lynn on Wisbech Road and the new Millennium Village, has also adopted the name Cornerstone.
Chris Brock, a member of the church’s Welcome Team said: “If you look on Google Maps, right down on top of the buildings, this is very much the centre of the community and that is the whole idea of our redevelopment. The church needs to be at the heart of the community – here for anybody who wants to come in and chat, a meeting place. We now have a much more open, accessible and welcoming building to offer that.”
On Saturday, March 17 to celebrate the newly improved facilities Cornerstone King’s Lynn Baptist Church held a Community Open Day inviting the Mayor of King’s Lynn Cllr Carol Bower to officially open the building.
The Eastern Baptist Association’s Beth Powney joined Pastor Kevan Crane to lead a service of dedication to mark the first worship service in the new facility on Sunday, March 18.
The building work has created a welcoming main entrance and reception area, a purpose built professional kitchen to cater for its community cafe, a new sound desk and heating system, and an accessible walk way throughout.
The project has also reinstated previously bricked up windows in the 150-seater worship area and the addition of a new central picture window. Chris said: “The whole thing has been about getting more light in the building. It is now a fantastic feature.”
The new community café will open for the first time on Wednesday, March 21 serving barista style coffees, tea and cake. The cafe, which will include a soft play corner for children, will be open on Wednesdays from 9am-4pm, on Thursdays from 12noon-4pm and on Fridays from 9am-4pm.
