Carols on the streets for King’s Lynn Night Shelter

King’s Lynn Churches Together will be performing carols on the streets this Saturday in aid of the Night Shelter as locals and community groups work to keep the charity open. The group has secured a license to make music on the high street as the Christmas shopping season begins and will be singing to raise money for the shelter on December 2. Night Shelter co-ordinator Lucy McKitterick is encouraging all singers to join in the event and help spread the message of faith and support for those in need. The shelter recently reopened at the beginning of November after receiving nearly £30,000 in donations from the local community.

The shelter has had a full house almost since reopening and is working on helping guests find sustainable accommodations to make space for others in need. The local Council does not routinely offer B&B emergency accommodation to those not in ‘priority need,’ so some have been sleeping rough. Local community groups, such as King’s Lynn Community Cinema and King’s Lynn Community Choir, are also doing their part to support the shelter through charity screenings and music events. The shelter relies on grants and donations, as it receives no government funding, and welcomes volunteers at their information and training evenings.
