Two geographically close churches in King’s Lynn took the Queen’s 90th Birthday as an opportunity to work together for the first time, bringing their local community together to celebrate.
King’s Lynn Baptist Church and All Saints Church, King’s Lynn are geographically so close and within the same parish, yet they have never in living memory worked directly together. That is until Sunday, May 15 when as part of a vision to bring the community together to celebrate, they put on an event in South Lynn to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Over 400 people, of all ages, came together at St Michael’s Church of England Academy, with West Norfolk Mayor and Mayoress David and Linda Whitby, and county councillor Alexandra Kemp, to sample the barbeque, eat a giant community-made birthday cake, listen to live music, blow giant bubbles and soak up the unforecasted sunshine. 100 copies of ‘The Servant Queen and the King She Serves’ were also given out during the afternoon.
Claire Archer, King’s Lynn Youth Worker and event organiser said: “The day was so successful because of the efforts of around 80 volunteers from both churches and the community aged from 8 to who knows! The question on everyone’s lips as they left was ‘when will you do another one?’!”
Working in partnership across the two churches, meant that the project was eligible for funding from the Dreams and Visions Network. The grant helped to fund the entertainment for the afternoon, including the clown, Crazy Bananas, face painting and an-all age bouncy castle.
Friendships and links between the two churches will now continue, as the organisers are set to meet to evaluate and plan for the future.
