Warm welcome space at Sheringham Methodists
St Andrews Methodist Church in Sheringham has recently launched a scheme called Warm Space to provide a warm daytime meeting area during a period of high fuel costs. The warm room is open every Tuesday from 10am to 3pm and anyone is welcome to arrive and leave at any time during that period. There is no charge for this service. Jean Parton from St Andrews explained that with the end of British Summertime and the clocks going back, their warm space provides a place for people to gather and enjoy good company, friendly chat, hot drinks, free Wi-Fi, newspapers, jigsaw puzzles, board games, and craft items. Furthermore, a free lunchtime soup and roll are served at 12 o’clock.
This initiative has received support from various organizations including Norfolk Community Foundation through Love Norfolk Fund 2023, the Shelroy Charitable Trust, and Norfolk Central Co-op. St Andrews also offers another program called “Do Drop In” Community Café every Wednesday from 11am to 1pm. This event welcomes everyone for food and friendship, serving tea and coffee until noon and light lunches from 12pm to 1pm. Additionally, the church hosts several weekday events such as the Ladies Fellowship Choir on Mondays, Table Tennis on Wednesday evenings, the monthly Encompass social group, and indoor bowls most days.
