Cromer Christians find home for shed
The drive by local Christians for a Men’s Shed in Cromer is moving forward, with the offer of a temporary base on the edge of the town, and everyone is invited to a viewing at a social evening next month. Tony Rothe reports.
The unit, at Middlebrook Way, will be shared with the Cromer charity About With Friends (AWF), and will enable the Cromer Shed to really get underway until they can find their own premises.
Men’s Sheds share some similarities to garden sheds — a place to pursue practical interests at leisure, to practise skills and enjoy making and mending. The difference is that garden sheds and their activities are often solitary in nature while Men’s Sheds are the opposite. Activities in Sheds vary greatly, but the essence of a Shed is not the building, but the connections and relationships between its members.
Publicity Officer Jess Stubenbord , third from left above, said “This is exciting news in that our Cromer Community Shed has found a location in Cromer, and we invite folk to come and explore our temporary home and workshop, which AWF are sharing with us, until we have our permanent home. This will be an opportunity to come see the workspace, enjoy nibbles, a cuppa, have a chat and share your ideas. All, male and female, are most welcome.”
Anyone with any spare woodworking kit, hand tools, power tools and even some machines, please let Jess know or bring them on the night.
The social evening will run from 5:30pm to 7pm on Thursday April 28 at AWF, Unit 22d, Middlebrook Way, Cromer, NR27 9JR.
