Match funding for Dereham Baptists’ debt centre
The Christians Against Poverty Debt Centre in Dereham, in partnership with Dereham Baptist Church, has been selected by the Aviva Community Fund for match funding to help individuals in the community struggling with debts. The Debt Centre has been actively involved in the community this year, participating in events such as a community event at Dereham library, running a money coaching course at the Green Pastures Community Hub, and attending the Love Dereham Community Lunch. The Aviva match funding program allows all donations received until May 18, 2024, to be doubled (up to £250 per household), enabling the Debt Centre to continue its vital work in the community.
Catherine Weatherill, Community Links Coordinator at the Dereham Debt Centre, emphasizes the importance of spreading awareness about the free debt help available in the area. Many people may not realize they are entitled to claim benefits, and by using the benefit calculator on CAP’s website, individuals have collectively discovered more than £100 million of additional annual income in the past year. The Debt Centre newsletter outlines the main reasons for debt, including low incomes, unexpected circumstances, physical and mental health struggles, and the need for budgeting support. Trained debt centre coaches are equipped to provide advice and support on these issues.
To support the Dereham Debt Centre’s vital debt help and budgeting courses and have donations matched by Aviva, individuals can visit their website. For those in need of financial support, various options are available, including registering for a Money Coaching Course, accessing free debt help by calling 0800 328 0006 or visiting capuk.org, and reaching out to learn more about community lunches by emailing [email protected]. The efforts of the Dereham Debt Centre are supported by a team consisting of Catherine Weatherill, Morgan Cockbill, and Nigel Bayley, who are committed to providing essential assistance to those facing financial difficulties in the community.
Community members are encouraged to share news stories or events related to Christians or churches in Mid Norfolk by emailing [email protected]. By raising awareness of the resources available at the Dereham Debt Centre and the support provided by Aviva’s match funding program, more individuals in the community can receive the assistance they need to overcome financial challenges and improve their financial well-being. Through collaboration with Dereham Baptist Church and active involvement in community events, the Debt Centre continues to make a positive impact on the lives of those struggling with debt in Dereham and surrounding areas.
