Yarmouth Parish Café celebrates 10 years
The Pathway Café and Resource Centre in Great Yarmouth recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary. Established in 2014 by the Parish of Great Yarmouth, the café’s mission was to provide a safe and welcoming space for individuals to meet, enjoy a free hot meal, build friendships, and receive advice and practical help. Over the years, the Pathway Café has expanded its services, including opening a foodbank center in partnership with the Trussell Trust and St Mary Magdalene Church in Gorleston. The charity currently serves around 100 people three times a week with hot meals and provides 40-45 food parcels weekly through the foodbank.
As they mark a decade of service, the Great Yarmouth Pathway Charity Manager, Jennifer King, reflects on the impact the organization has had on the local community. While proud of the difference they have made, King also acknowledges the ongoing challenges of deprivation and loneliness that persist in the area. She hopes that in another 10 years, the charity will have evolved and be serving the community in a different capacity, with the ultimate goal of eradicating the need for their current services. Despite the challenges, the Pathway Café remains committed to being a lifeline for vulnerable individuals and improving their lives for the long term.
The 10 year anniversary of the Pathway Café was celebrated with a party, raffle, and full roast dinner at the café, as well as a service of celebration at Great Yarmouth Minster. The Right Reverend Ian, Bishop of Thetford, was in attendance at both events, showing his support for the work of the charity. The staff, volunteers, and supporters of the Pathway Café came together to commemorate the milestone and reflect on the impact they have had on the lives of those they serve in the Great Yarmouth community.
Looking ahead, the Great Yarmouth Pathway Charity remains dedicated to its mission of providing support, companionship, and assistance to those in need. As they continue to navigate the challenges of deprivation and loneliness in the community, the charity will work tirelessly to be a beacon of hope for the vulnerable individuals they serve. With a focus on long-term impact and sustainability, the Pathway Café looks to the future with a vision of evolving their services to meet the changing needs of the community and striving towards a future where their services are no longer necessary.
