East Norfolk churches provide warm spaces

Several churches and church halls in East Norfolk are providing a warm welcome to enable people to come and get warm during the current squeeze on fuel bills.

Magdalen Way Methodist Church in Gorleston have launched Warm Welcome Fridays which will run until the end of March. From 10am until 2pm they be offering hot drinks, toast and toppings free of charge, then between 3 and 5pm they will be open for families to have somewhere at the end of the school day. Family Warm Welcome will provide a simple meal, children’s games and crafts, hats, and gloves to take away, use of a laptop and help with homework, room to run around and toddler-safe toys.

Bradwell Methodist Church in Church Lane, pictured above, is inviting people to attend its warm room sessions to help families or those living on their own who may be struggling to heat their homes or those who feel isolated. The sessions run every Thursday from 9.30am to 12.30pm, with free tea, coffee, and biscuits and a warm welcome for all. They will supply activities for those who want them – colouring in sheets, word searches, crossword puzzles, and board games.  The church is on the no 6 bus route which stops opposite the church. They have received a grant from Bradwell’s Poors Marsh Trust to help with funding.

Minster Mission in Admiralty Road, Yarmouth, run by Elim Pentecostal Church, are providing a warm space every Saturday from 3pm to 5pm, with refreshments available.

Hemsby Village Hall in Waters Lane is also offering a warm space every Tuesday from 10am to 3pm until the end of March. The scheme is supported by Hemsby Parish Council, and will provide free hot drinks, games, wifi, and newspapers provided by the local post office.
