Norwich City Council manifesto launch 2023
Over the weekend, Norwich Labour candidates and councillors launched our 2023 Norwich City Council manifesto on the site of the former Kings Arms pub in Mile Cross. This land was compulsory purchased by Labour-run Norwich City Council in 2020, after it was left to stand derelict for years by its previous owner, and used to build new eco-friendly council homes.
The homes here are built to high environmental standards, resulting both in reduced carbon emissions and lower bills for residents. Each property has extra insulation, air source heat pumps, triple glazing, solar panels and an electric vehicle charging point. This is yet another example of Norwich Labour’s commitment to delivering social, economic and environmental justice.
Our manifesto, entitled ‘Our Norwich, Fair for All’, commits the council to building hundreds more environmentally friendly council homes, taking tougher action to protect private renters, investing significantly in the city, protecting the city’s and continuing to take climate action. Tackling crime, anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping through new CCTV, alley-gates, and communal door entry systems to better protect communities is also a top priority.
Cllr Alan Waters, Labour Leader of Norwich City, says:
“This election on Thursday 4th May will be a real choice for Norwich people. Our city has felt the impact of 13 long years of Tory government where we’ve seen support for vital services shredded and the recent impact of the pandemic and the ongoing cost of living crisis heap pressure upon city people.
In contrast, Norwich Labour has the vision and policies to build a better future for all, with a bold, hopeful, and achievable offer of positive change. This manifesto is about putting the people of our city first – fighting for jobs, sustainable growth, new council housing and taking every step possible to make Norwich a safer, cleaner, fairer place to live. The launch of our manifesto today, at the site of the former Kings Arms site which was abandoned and left derelict by the previous owner, but now taken and turned into new council homes for Norwich people shows what we can deliver when people vote Labour in our city.
Our track record has been one of practical improvements and positive changes since taking control in 2012. At a time when the Tory government keeps hitting our city with ceaseless cuts upon the public services we value while sitting back as inequality rockets, a vote for Labour in Norwich is a real chance to support our fairer and positive alternative. The message is clear – we are on your side in Norwich”.
