Duff striker misses by 1,100 miles as football booted out of Aberdeen club turns up in Norway

A FOOTBALL booted out of a ground in Scotland turned up 1,100 miles away in Norway.

Players from the Banks O’ Dee FC’s under-19s assumed it was gone forever after it sailed over a 25ft perimeter net.

But it is believed to have floated down the neighbouring River Dee in Aberdeen and into the North Sea before bobbing all the way to the Norwegian island of Vanna.

The amateur club — whose name is printed on the ball – then received an email telling them they “have one of the best long distance kickers in the world”.

Johnny Mikalsen added: “A friend of mine found a football with your club name on it by the seaside.
“The football is just a little bit dirty after such a long distance, but fully usable.”

Club secretary Tom Ewan said: “We lose about two balls a month. We just never realised this is where they might be ending up.”

The ball is now on the verge of being returned — thanks to a handy coincidence.

Tom explained: “The man who found the ball has actually won a local competition to come over and visit Scottish distilleries.

“We have, of course, asked him to visit us when he comes. But he has to bring the ball.”
