Woman runs from Norwich to Oxford in memory of Horsford aunt
Margaret Simpson, who lived in Horsford, died aged 73 on April 17, 2022, from mucosal melanoma which is a rare but aggressive disease usually diagnosed in advanced stages.
However thanks to the surgery Margaret received in 2015 at Oxford Churchill Hospital, the family were able to enjoy seven more years with her.
Margaret’s niece, Ruth Williams, took up the challenge to run from the N&N to Oxford over three days to raise money for Melanoma UK – who helped the family after Margaret’s death.
Ruth began the challenge on August 18, two days after Margaret would have celebrated her 75th birthday.
Kerri Mitchell, Margaret’s daughter, said: “Ruth finished around 7.15pm on Sunday (August 20).
“She carried some of my mum’s ashes with her the whole way which was lovely.
“Ruth was amazing – she ran a total of 142 miles after having to take some diversions and suffering a knee injury.
“In total, she spent 33 hours running which is incredible – we’re all very proud of her.”
So far, Ruth has raised £1,665 for the charity.
