AFC Bournemouth 1 Norwich City Women 2: match report
City’s high-pressing approach caused the hosts a number of problems in the opening stages on the south coast. Freya Symonds caught Bournemouth off-guard when her cross from the left curled towards goal, but keeper Daniela Kosinska was able to claw it away.
The Cherries grew into the first-half, with Molly Barron-Clark impressing in particular. The midfielder had a golden chance to open the scoring less than ten minutes before the break, but somehow missed the target.
Norwich were fortunate to go in at half-time on level terms, but there was no luck involved when they took the lead in the 53rd minute. A really well-worked move ended with substitute Lawrence finding Symonds, who poked home from six yards.
However, the hosts’ response to going behind was impressive, and they drew level not long after the hour mark through Lucy Cooper.
Neither side were able to settle the tie inside 90 minutes, so the game entered extra-time. With 10 minutes remaining, Lawrence produced a moment of magic to regain City’s lead, before Sarah Quantrill made a collection of impressive saves late on to secure the victory.
Norwich City: Quantrill, Daviss, Larkins (c), Strauss, Parker, Todd, Knights, Cook, Stanley, Symonds, Shaw. Subs: Harper, Hailes, Morran, Lawrence, Pernet.
