Norwich Miss Universe winner Kerri Parker raises £21k

Kerri Parker, 39, from Brundall, who won Miss Universe in Miami last year, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2013 and underwent surgery in 2019 in the US after her Jiu-jitsu school raised thousands of pounds for treatment.

Following the successful treatment, Ms Parker, who grew up in Dereham, now wants to give something back and has raised £21,000 for Brain Tumour Research by running the London Marathon and holding beauty pageants at her Kerri Parker Academy model school.

After raising the enormous sum, she made a surprise visit to the London Institute of Research to hand over the cash and be added to the institute’s Wall of Hope for inspiring fundraisers.

She said: “The surprise visit I had no idea about.

“My mother Kathleen had planned it with the charity since May, to coincide with my ten-year cancer survival next month, I thought we were just going shopping.

“Ever since I have had brain cancer we have supported Brain Tumour Research.

“I just finished a year of chemo so I feel blessed to be here to put my name on the wall myself and be recognised for what we did.”

Ms Parker, who is also a former winner of Miss UK, recently appeared in the House of Commons to appeal for government funding for the charity.

Her fundraising work also saw her become one of the last people to receive a letter from the late Queen Elizabeth II  after she thanked the monarch for inviting her to the Platinum Jubilee garden party at Buckingham Palace last year.
