Norwich police up presence in NR2 following drug incidents

The Norfolk Constabulary has increased its presence in the Norwich South neighbourhood around Jenny Lind Park in response to a rise in anti-social behavior in the area. This decision was made following feedback from locals at the latest Norwich South Safer Neighbourhood Action Panel (Snap) priority-setting meeting. Police have stepped up their patrols and are encouraging residents to report any incidents to them via 101 or the Norfolk Police website. The increase in police presence comes as Norwich experiences a surge in cases of anti-social behavior, with incidents rising by 10% between 2022 and 2023.

The surge in anti-social behavior has prompted a crackdown by police in Norwich East, particularly in the city center, Bowthorpe, Hellesdon, and New Catton. Almost half of the incidents took place in Norwich East, with incidents in the north of the city rising by more than 42%. According to local councillors, this increase is largely attributed to government cuts to social services and increased pressure on the police. Labour county councillor Emma Corlett stressed the importance of continued collaboration between the local community, community organizations, and public services to address the issues in the area.

The Norfolk Constabulary has increased its presence in Suffolk Square and Jenny Lind Park in response to residents’ concerns about anti-social behavior. Norwich has seen a 10% increase in such incidents between 2022 and 2023, prompting local councillors to attribute the rise to government cuts and increased police pressure. Police have specifically targeted key areas, such as Bowthorpe, Hellesdon, and New Catton, as well as public parks in their crackdown on anti-social behavior. Labour county councillor Emma Corlett emphasized the importance of community involvement and close collaboration with public services in tackling these issues. The next Norwich South Snap meeting is scheduled for December 5, and local participation is encouraged.
