QPR 1 Norwich City Women 2: Smith nets winner over 10-man R’s

In a noisy and hostile environment at QPR’s home ground, Norwich City initially struggled to settle into the match. The home team provided some early warning signs of their threats, but Norwich City failed to be alert enough when Grace Stanley put QPR in the lead after just 15 minutes.

However, the turning point came in the 35th minute when QPR goalkeeper, Mya Francis-Pownall, was shown a straight red card for denying Norwich City midfielder, Ellie Smith, a clear goalscoring opportunity. With no reserve goalkeeper on the bench, QPR’s defender Jo Blodgett was forced to step into the goalkeeper role.

This dramatic turn of events gave Norwich City an opportunity to capitalize on the difficulties faced by the hosts. Just before halftime, Megan Todd scored, heading home a cross from Anna Larkins, ensuring that Norwich City pulled level. In the second half, Ellie Smith completed the comeback, finding the back of the net from inside the box with assistance from Natasha Snelling.

Despite QPR’s efforts to equalize in the late stages of the game, Norwich City held on to secure their sixth away victory of the season. The lineup for Norwich City included Quantrill, Parker, Larkins as captain, Strauss, Tomlinson, Morran, Todd, Smith, Knights, Lawrence, and Snelling. The substitutes were Daviss, Stanley, Symonds, Cook, and Croft.
