Norwich Lanes Mon Chai cafe in St Benedicts Street for sale

Jahangir Ali and his cousin Juned Ahmed opened Mon Chai in February at 52 St Benedicts Street, taking over the space previously occupied by cafe bar House. The restaurant offered a variety of Bangladeshi-inspired dishes, including tapioca fritters, haleem, masala chicken, and biryani, as well as all-day breakfast options. However, after just nine months in operation, the owners announced that they would be relocating and the site is now up for sale. The leasehold for the property is listed at £65,000 with a rent of £16,000.

The owners highlighted the vibrant and bustling location of the restaurant, situated in the heart of Norwich, as having substantial potential for a new owner. Although they expressed disappointment at having to sell due to their impending family relocation, they assured potential buyers that the restaurant comes fully equipped with a kitchen and a well-prepared front of house. The decision to sell was a necessary one due to their personal circumstances, and they are hopeful that a new owner will be able to take advantage of the prime location and the existing infrastructure of the restaurant.

Mon Chai had built a reputation for serving Bangladeshi-inspired cuisine in the heart of Norwich, offering a unique dining experience for the local community. The restaurant had become known for its diverse menu and had garnered a loyal customer base during its brief tenure at St Benedicts Street. Despite the unfortunate circumstances that led to the decision to sell, the owners expressed their gratitude to the patrons who had supported them and expressed optimism for the future of the space under new management. The availability of a fully equipped kitchen and an established front of house provides a promising opportunity for a new owner to take over and continue the legacy of Mon Chai.
