IKEA to launch mobile collection points across Norfolk
IKEA and Tesco are teaming up to introduce mobile pick-up points in Norwich, Thetford, King’s Lynn, Great Yarmouth, and Diss by autumn 2024, with more than 70 car park collection zones set to be opened across the UK. This initiative aims to make shopping at IKEA more accessible for people in a range of locations. Customers can collect orders over £100 for free, while orders under £100 can be collected for a fee of £5. This nationwide rollout follows a successful pilot launched last year, during which 12 pick-up points were trialled.
Jakob Bertilsson, IKEA UK’s customer fulfilment manager, sees the introduction of mobile pick-up points as an important step in the partnership with Tesco, which will bring IKEA closer to people across all parts of the UK. He acknowledges the changing and evolving shopping behaviors of customers and emphasizes the commitment to growing the service offer to make shopping with IKEA more convenient, accessible, and affordable. This initiative reflects IKEA’s willingness to adapt to the needs of its customers and provide a shopping experience that fits with their preferences and lifestyles.
The decision to introduce mobile pick-up points comes after IKEA closed its store in Sweet Briar Road, Norwich, in July 2021. The company had originally opened this outlet in November 2015 as part of a smaller-format test program designed to better understand how customers want to shop in cities. The closure of the Norwich store is an indication of the shifting retail landscape and the need for IKEA to rethink its approach to reaching customers in various locations across the UK.
Overall, the collaboration between IKEA and Tesco to introduce mobile pick-up points across the UK represents a significant effort to adapt to changing customer needs and make shopping at IKEA more convenient and accessible. This initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to growing its service offer and reflects a willingness to evolve in response to shifting shopping behaviors and preferences. By introducing these pick-up points, IKEA aims to bring its products closer to people in different locations, addressing the needs of customers in a variety of areas across the UK.
