Henri usually covers the annual ground rent and site fees himself, but this year they are higher than ever. He mentioned that his mum and grandparents usually help him out financially, but they are also struggling, with his mum not taking any wages for herself and his grandparents’ pension not covering their expenses.
For Henri, the caravan park is not just a place to live; it is his safety, security, and accessibility. He tried living in a house before but did not enjoy it due to his physical needs and autism. However, he now faces the possibility of having to leave the caravan site if he cannot raise the funds by January 3, which means losing his home and his livelihood. Henri works as a drag king at events in Norwich, but with almost everything he owns being necessary for his work, he would not be able to replace his belongings if he had to leave. This means he may not be able to work for a long time, or even ever again.
In a desperate attempt to raise the necessary funds, Henri set up a Gofundme.com page. In just a few days, he has already raised over £500 of his target, thanks to support from many of the top drag performers in the city who have shared his page. Henri’s disabilities, including epilepsy, scoliosis, and autism, make it difficult for him to work a full week, but his passion for drag performance keeps him going. Losing his home would not only mean losing a place of shelter but also a place where he feels safe and can continue pursuing his passion.
