Salvation Army launch Children’s Clothing Bank

The Salvation Army in Snettisham has launched a West Norfolk clothing bank for children aged between six months and five years. Lieutenant Emily Hague, who leads the church and charity, initiated the project after learning that many parents in the area were struggling to clothe their children. The organization will be working closely with Maggie Anderson and her team at Baby Basics West Norfolk, a national charity that supports new parents who are unable to afford essentials for their newborns. The clothing bank will cater to children up to five years old to address the needs of siblings as well.

Emily said that the need for assistance is great, with Baby Basics having helped over 1,000 new mothers and families since its launch in West Norfolk seven years ago. In this year alone, they have responded to over 260 referrals. Baby Basics works with various professional bodies, as well as schools and nurseries, to provide starter packs and essential items for families in need. The closure of a local children’s clothing bank earlier this year left the referral agencies devastated, as the demand for support has only grown.

Maggie Anderson expressed her pleasure at being able to support Emily in her mission to establish the clothing bank. She believes that the new service will make a tangible difference in the lives of families in West Norfolk. The West Norfolk Children’s Clothing Bank is accepting donations at various locations, including The Salvation Army in Snettisham, Snettisham Co-op, St Mary’s Church, and The Salvation Army Community Shop in Hunstanton. Emily and her team are specifically looking for items such as bodysuits, sleepsuits, vests, pants, socks, T-shirts, jumpers, skirts, shorts, trousers, jackets, and coats.
