Everyman Cinema planned for Chantry Place in Norwich

Everyman Cinemas, a chain of boutique cinemas, has submitted an application to Norwich City Council to convert three units at Chantry Place into a new theatre. The company hopes to occupy the former Cafe Rouge and Pizza Hut restaurants, while the occupant of the third unit is yet to be confirmed but is expected to vacate in early 2024. Everyman Cinemas was founded in 2000 and offers a unique cinema experience, hosting special events and screening classic and independent films. If approved, this would be the third cinema in Norwich, joining ODEON at Riverside and Cinema City in St Andrew’s Street.

The application includes plans to modify the building’s entrance and existing customer toilets, as well as transforming the units from retail and restaurant use to a cinema. The proposed cinema will have four screens and a total seating capacity of 300 people. Chantry Place, the shopping centre where these units are located, has neither confirmed nor denied the rumours of Everyman Cinemas’ potential move. A representative from the centre expressed excitement about the future, stating that they have plans to introduce more big brands to the retail landscape and are exploring potential lettings to enhance their offering in retail, catering, and leisure.

Everyman Cinemas has not yet commented on the application. The company has locations across the country, including London, Manchester, and Liverpool, and is known for its stylish venues and curated selection of films. By expanding into Norwich, Everyman Cinemas aims to bring its unique cinema experience to a new audience and contribute to the city’s cultural and entertainment scene. With its focus on special events and independent films, the chain offers a distinct alternative to mainstream cinema chains, and its presence in Norwich will provide more options for film enthusiasts in the area.
