Norfolk rector’s bus trip supports local charities

The Revd Michael Kingston, Team Rector of the Hempnall Group of Parishes in South Norfolk is embarking on a long, some would say eccentric, bus ride this May.

Michael intends to travel 2,000 miles in 20 days on 100 buses around England and Wales to raise money for two charities.

Michael, who has had an interest in buses for a number of years, is hoping to raise a good sum of money for the Big C and The Vidiyal Trust.  The Big C is a local charity raising awareness and help for cancer patients and their families.  The Vidiyal Trust, set up by the Revd Pat Atkinson, cares for some of the poorest people, young and old, in the slum area of Southern India.

Many of the country’s bus companies are on board – Anglian Bus, Arriva, Brighton and Hove, East Yorkshire, Elsign Bus, Filers, First, Lloyd Jones, Norfolk Green, Quantocks, Western Greyhound and Wilts and Dorset.  All have generously donated tickets for their services.

Friends, family, retreat centres and bed and breakfast accommodation has all been booked and the bell rings for the start at Halesworth on Tuesday 28th May.

“It’s been great fun planning this trip.” says Michael, “but there is still time for routes, times and operations to change!  Hopefully there will not be too many delays or cancellations.  This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy this great country at a slower pace – also to raise money for these two charities.”

Michael’s journey will take him to dozens of places including Bournemouth, Penzance, Aberystwyth and Whitby
