The power of prayer overcomes dark times
After enduring decades of illness and major surgery Norfolk Christian Colin Gillett tells of how his faith – and the prayers of people within the Norfolk church community – have brought him through the dark times.
Colin was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease over 30 years ago, and a form of Pancreatitis approximately eight years ago. He has had three major abdominal surgical procedures and the most recent one in February this year was potentially the most hazardous. In fact, he was advised to tell his next of kin – his son – of any funeral requirements.
Colin is grateful to scores of people from various denominations in the Norfolk Christian community and further afield who were praying for him and the surgical team while he was undergoing the operation and for his recovery.
Colin says, “I have two passions in my life – Norwich Foodbank, and my preaching work as a Methodist trainee local preacher.”
He is delighted to have returned to light duties at the Foodbank office and looks forward to his return to the preaching circuit in the summer. He says, “I can’t describe just how much this means to me – I did not expect to see Feb12th.”
Colin asked for a message of thanks to be sent to Network Norfolk readers who have been praying for him.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have prayed for me, either collectively or individually, over the last few months. I know that there are many of you, from various denominations. A knowledge that has been, and is, both humbling and empowering.
I’ve made a lot of progress over the last two months, but still have a long way to go. I guess you could say that I’ve left Base Camp and am starting to climb my personal K2. You can be sure that your prayers have certainly helped me through some ‘dark times’ – certainly, immediately post-op.
Sometimes they seem like two small words that are too small, but all I can say, once again, is THANK YOU.”
