Byron Burger closing its Chantry Place branch in Norwich

The Byron Burger branch in Chantry Place is shutting its doors but the shopping centre says it has “exciting plans for the unit”.

The company was sold in a pre-pack administration to Tristar Foods in January.

Nine restaurants were axed with the remaining 12 sites, including Norwich, and 365 jobs transferred to the buyer.

It is understood that the landlord of the site at Chantry Place has retaken the lease.

In a letter seen by this newspaper, staff at the Bryon branch in Norwich have been warned by head office that redundancies will be made and that they should seek alternative employment.

Paul McCarthy, general manager at Chantry Place, said: “We continue to receive lots of interest from brands to trade at Chantry Place.

“We can confirm that Byron is closing but we have exciting plans for the unit, which we will announce as soon as we can.

“It is a busy time for us at Chantry Place with the recent openings of Frasers and Urban Outfitters and we’ll have more news to announce shortly.”

No date has been confirmed for the closure.

Byron Burger has been contacted for comment.
