AIDY BOOTHROYD wants the Carrow Road crowd to get behind his England Under-21s as the ‘exceptional’ talent of midfielder James Maddison returns to Norwich.
England take on the Netherlands in a crunch European U21 Championship qualifier on Thursday night with former Canaries’ players Maddison and Angus Gunn in their squad.
Said the former Norwich City academy coach: “It’ll be very important as there’s something on the game.
“Beating the Netherlands will help us towards qualification and as always, if the crowd is behind you and with you, it always helps the players on the pitch.”
Maddison, 21, left Carrow Road for Leicester City in the summer and has made a senstaional start to life in the Premier League.
Boothroyd doesn’t think he is ready for for the England team yet, but says: “He certainly has got a lot of qualities.

“He is very creative and he’s done really, really well for us. He is on our radar in the U21s and he’s on the seniors’ radar.”
Former Coventry academy graduate Maddison has made three appearances for England Under-21s, bagging an assist in a 2-1 victory over Ukraine.
City team-mates Ben Chilwell and Demarai Gray are also in the squad.
The Young Lions sit top of Group 4, five points ahead of their Dutch visitors with four matches to play.
The teams drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture in Doetinchem in September 2017 with Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the scoresheet for England.
