Hunstanton churches open new CAP Debt Centre

People struggling with debt in Hunstanton and the surrounding villages of North West Norfolk will now be able to access free help from the town’s new Debt Centre hosted by Union Church in partnership with Christians Against Poverty.

Hunstanton’s Union Church with support from Anglican Parish Churches, Methodist Churches in North-West Norfolk and Hunstanton Roman Catholic Church are partnering with charity Christians Against Poverty (CAP) to bring Norfolk’s fifth CAP Debt Centre to the area.

The centre based at Union Church on Sandringham Road, Hunstanton began in December and will operate initially for two days each week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, offering help to people affected by debt.

New Debt Centre Manager Steve Tong (pictured) said: “Many people struggle with debt which can arise for all sorts of reasons such as relationship breakdown, job-loss or bereavement. Debt can also be the result of people simply struggling to manage on a limited income, perhaps relying on benefits, or low pay, especially where work is part time or seasonal.

“The Church seeks to share God’s love with people through all it does, and that’s why, as well as offering its regular services and activities, Union Church has decided to work with CAP to bring relief from debt and the hope of the gospel to offer a better future to people in need.”

Christians Against Poverty is an award-winning national debt counselling charity which is highly respected throughout the financial services industry and beyond. The service is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and is completely free of charge to clients and their creditors.

Every client is visited in their own home by the Centre Manager and a member of the support team. If they decide to work with CAP, they will receive ongoing support from the team at CAP Head Office until they are totally debt-free. All clients are welcome regardless of their age, gender, faith or background

CAP draws up a personalised budget, negotiates with all creditors on behalf of the client, and sets up a CAP Plan to enable clients to make one easy monthly payment towards all of their bill and debt repayments, which CAP distributes on their behalf.

CAP Debt Centres can also be found across Norfolk in Fakenham, King’s Lynn, Norwich and Mid-Norfolk, which itself covers the five market towns of Thetford, Dereham, Attleborough, Swaffham and Watton.

Anyone needing help with their debts can call CAP free of charge on 0800 328 0006.
