Lynn Christian calls for volunteers to start Credit Union

Lucy Faulkner-Gawlinski, from King’s Lynn Quakers, is hosting a meeting for anyone who may be interested in helping to bring the Norwich Credit Union to King’s Lynn.

On Thursday, April 27 Lucy Faulkner-Gawlinski (right) from King’s Lynn Quakers is organising a meeting to seek to bring a Norwich Credit Union service point to King’s Lynn, and would welcome anyone who may be interested in volunteering their time to make it happen.

Two representatives from the Norwich Credit Union will be at the meeting, which will be held at the Friends Meeting House on Bridge Street, from 5.30pm – 7.30pm to explain how it works.

Lucy Faulkner-Gawlinski said: “The Norwich Credit Union offers an affordable, not-for- profit ‘save and borrow’ service throughout the Norfolk area. It does not yet have a service point in King’s Lynn but, if we bring together enough volunteers, we could start one, just as they have in Great Yarmouth and Dereham.

“A credit union is a way of keeping money in the local community and it offers low-cost, fair and flexible loans. In addition, it opens up the possibility of saving and borrowing for people who have never had a bank account.

“The Norwich Credit Union is a real alternative to high street banks and payday lenders. Can we bring the Credit Union to King’s Lynn? Could you be part of a team to make it work?

“If you have a couple of hours once in a while, you could become one of the volunteers. You would have to be trained and be able to use a computer but you would not have to handle money.”

All are welcome.
