Fight hunger with Lynn Foodbank’s two new fundraisers

King’s Lynn Foodbank is inviting churches, schools, businesses and individuals to help them fight hunger as it launches two new fundraising initiatives, ‘The Big Supper Week’ and ‘Pounding Poverty’, in response to what is set to be its busiest year to date.

Feeding over 3,600 people in 2016/17 King’s Lynn Foodbank saw a 22% increase in use, and is now set to feed over 4,000 people this year based on current figures.  In order to meet this growing demand the foodbank are launching two new fundraisers and are asking churches, schools, businesses and the general public to get involved.

The first initiative, King’s Lynn Foodbank Big Supper Week, is due to be held from Monday, November 20-Sunday, November 26.

Andy King, Foodbank Trustee explains: “The idea is a simple one. We’d like people to invite their friends and neighbours over for a meal – any time of day, and anything from a simple supper to a fancy dinner party. People eat together and make a donation to the Foodbank.”

Over a dozen Big Suppers have already been planned, and it’s not just individuals getting involved as two King’s Lynn restaurants are planning events as well.

“We’re really excited to have the community working together to fight hunger,” Andy added, “and we’d encourage schools, businesses and community groups to get involved”.

The second initiative is even simpler. ‘Pounding Poverty’ is encouraging people to donate any unspent old round £1 coins to the Foodbank once they lose their legal tender status on Sunday, October 15. To get involved, simply collect pound coins, as individuals or businesses, and deposit them at the Foodbank during their opening hours.

There are also ‘Pounding Poverty’ collection points at the following locations in Kings Lynn:- Starbucks, Grub Shack, Mr Snippers, Middleton Steak and Grill, Kings Butchers, Halls Newsagents, and Marham Spar.
