Norwich church relaunches in-person jobs club
After a period online, Norwich church City Gates is re-starting its free in-person job club, in partnership with charity Christians Against Poverty (CAP).
Its next course starts on Tuesday January 17, and will run every Tuesday from 10am to 12.30pm when it will stop for lunch. Every term there will be an eight-week course called ‘Steps to Employment’.
The venue is City Gates Church, just at the back of Anglia Square. All are welcome whether you have just started on your job seeking journey or have been looking for work for a long time. If you can’t make this week, just jcome and join us next week!
“The course is motivational,” writes Job Club Manager Dawn Arden “It works really well helping people to identify and overcome any obstacles that are in the way of finding work. It helps people to recognise personal strengths which in turn helps to build a powerful CV. It explores at what employers are looking for and how to make your CV stand out, as well as covering interview skills and much more.
“There is a real sense of togetherness and supporting each other. We add in support for those who need technical help for job applications. Once the course is finished, our job coach and trained volunteers work individually with clients to help them implement all they have learned during the course to help them into work.”
The club is also currently running a 12-week course involving whole-day training in practical skills and associated food hygiene qualification to support clients into work in a kitchen environment.
“We’ve all got different challenges,” said Dawn Arden, “but for unemployed people, taking these steps into employment can be a real confidence booster.”
