Waveney foodbank honoured for pandemic role

Waveney foodbank, based at Eye Airfield near Diss has received a Covid 19 resilience blue plaque from HM Deputy Lieutenant of Norfolk, Rev Matthew Hutton.

Foodbank project manager Matthew Scade, said: “It was a pleasure, an honour, and a very humbling experience to receive a Covid 19 resilience blue plaque on behalf of HM Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk, Lady Dannatt.

“The Rev Matthew Hutton presented it on behalf of all the wonderful volunteers, past and present, at Waveney foodbank. This award is for all the continued hard work and dedication of our volunteers. So from myself and the trustees, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Well done to you all.”

Waveney foodbank, which is part of the Trussell Trust, operates in South Norfolk and Suffolk and has two warehouses and 11 distribution centres. These centres, manned by a team of wonderful volunteers, have provided the equivalent of around 500,000 meals to local people in crisis since the start of the pandemic.
