Elliot Dransfield, Emily Bridges and Johnny Durrant opened The Malt and Mardle in Magdalen Street in July 2021 and it has built up a loyal following.

With the change of use planning application recently accepted by Broadland District Council, they have now started work to open their new establishment in Red Lion Street called The Porters Arms.

Formerly a retail shop selling telescopes and binoculars, Altair Astro moved to Rackheath Industrial Estate earlier this year.

The Malt and Mardle co-owners will be transforming the Aylsham property into a bright and friendly pub with a country feel.

Miss Bridges said: “We’re giving ourselves until the end of the year to convert the ground floor of the property into a pub.

“Initially this space will be quite small so it will definitely meet the micropub criteria.

“We hope it will be just as welcoming, cosy and unique as The Malt and Mardle in Norwich – the community we have built at the pub is just brilliant.

“Thanks to its success, we’re now ready to take on a new challenge.”

Mr Dransfield and Miss Bridges also know Aylsham well as they went to school nearby and have family in the area.

Miss Bridges added: “The building has a bit more space than our Norwich micropub so there is lots of room for growth.

“We can’t wait to see where this new opportunity takes us!”
