Norwich charity launches picnic pantry shop

Norfolk-based charity ENYP is excited to be launching its first picnic pantry charity shop in May.

With recent news of food price inflation hitting a 45 year high, as well as almost 10 million adults experiencing food poverty last year, we continue to see the impact of how the cost of living crisis affects households and how increasingly this affects children.

Norfolk Christian charity ENYP already supports thousands of people in the county. Based on Wroxham Road in the north city, the charity will open a shop to sell a wide range of fresh produce, mostly sourced from local suppliers, as well as some new and lightly-used second hand household goods, such as crockery, glassware, books, clothes, plants and some furniture.

ENYP wants to promote healthy eating and encourage people to shop in ways that reduce their overall shopping bills as well as ensuring their diet contains fresh food.

One team member from the charity shop said “This is an amazing opportunity for the community to not only support local business but also help food poverty whilst shopping for everyday items.”

This is the second community-based project that ENYP have launched within a year, as their social supermarket in Russell Street Community Centre in NR2 opened last summer. It has seen hundreds of households register. The social supermarket sells a range of fruit and vegetables and fresh produce, all at greatly-reduced prices.
