Jane Overhill attended a recent SNAP (Norwich East Safer Neighbourhood) meeting and raised
residents’ concerns about increased speeding in Rose Lane. As a result the Police agreed to conduct
speed checks in the area.
Whilst Jane was thankful for this Police action, she knows this will not solve the problem as the
Police cannot be there all the time and speeding motorists will just revert to form when they have
gone.
The dangers were highlighted again on Friday when a car left the Jet garage at speed, rammed itself
into the back of another car, before shooting across the road and going straight through one of the
windows of the Snowdrop Coffee Shop. It then sped off.
Jane said “Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse, I was with a friend on Friday afternoon and
we were heading to the Snowdrop Coffee Shop on Rose Lane, but when we got there it had just
closed due to this incident. I was told that the Police were quick to attend and that they have caught
up with the driver and an arrest has been made. I feel so sorry for the owner of this business who
has lost customers and been landed with a heavy bill for repairs. Ultimately, someone could have
been killed or seriously injured. I think that Norfolk County Council need to do much more to make
this road safe for local residents; pedestrians and now businesses. A 20mph zone is not enough.
I have highlighted this issue with Labour’s Police and Crime Commissioner Sarah Taylor to see if she
can help expedite a solution.”
