Norwich Cathedral receives historic England grant for conservation work
The Cathedral of St John the Baptist in Norwich has been awarded a £57,000 grant from Historic England, aimed at supporting critical conservation efforts to protect this Grade I listed architectural and spiritual landmark. The money will be used to investigate the cathedral’s roof and drainage system, which have been increasingly affected by leaks and water damage.
The grant, which will allow for sophisticated investigations, marks the first stage of a broader conservation initiative designed to preserve the cathedral’s vital structure. The cathedral, built in the late 19th century by renowned architect George Gilbert Scott Junior and completed by his brother, John Scott, is the second-largest Catholic cathedral in England and stands as a masterpiece of Victorian Gothic Revival design.
