Sheringham church’s school prom outfits

The Salvation Army in Sheringham collaborated with the local high school to help students prepare for their end-of-year prom by hosting a Vintage & Preloved Prom Night clothes sale. Claire Taylor, the deputy manager at the Salvation Army charity shop, collected suitable items of clothing for the prom earlier in the year and priced them all under £30 to make them affordable for families facing financial challenges. The event was held in the school hall, with around 50 students taking advantage of the opportunity to find a bargain for the ball. The goal was to provide students with access to affordable outfits while also promoting the organization’s ‘Care for Creation’ values.

Dawn Hollidge, Senior Deputy Headteacher at Sheringham High School, expressed her excitement about the sale and hoped that it could become an annual event. She noted that both students and parents were impressed with the quality and prices of the outfits available. In a time of economic hardship, being able to find a beautiful prom dress or suit for under £30 can make a significant difference for families. The environmentally conscious students were also pleased to have the opportunity to stay ‘green’ while still looking fantastic. Simon Fenn, community manager at the Salvation Army, praised Claire and the volunteers at the shop for their efforts in raising around £500 to support the organization’s work in the community while promoting an eco-friendly ethos and strengthening their relationship with the school for future collaborations.
